It may still be a little early, but following <a href="https://blog.playstation.com/2026/07/01/an-update-on-playstation-store-for-ps3-and-ps-vita/” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>the announcement that the PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita will shut down, the prices of games for those systems appear to be rising sharply, with some titles seeing particularly dramatic increases.
Reports mainly come from the US secondary market, where private sellers and retailers deal in used games.
Platforms such as eBay are reportedly seeing significant price increases for PS3 titles.
PlayStation Store Closure Sends PS3 Game Prices Soaring
The main reason is easy to understand. Once Sony closes the official PlayStation Store, players will no longer be able to buy many of these games digitally, creating greater demand for the remaining physical copies.
As previously mentioned, Sony plans to close the PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita in July 2027. Although there is still about a year left before the shutdown, the decision comes after Sony delayed the closure following strong community backlash when it first announced the plan.
After July 2027, players will no longer be able to purchase digital PS3 and PS Vita games through the PlayStation Store. This is expected to have a major impact on the physical games market for both platforms.
Without an official and always-available digital store, the limited number of physical copies still available is likely to become much more valuable.
This could make prices go up even more, especially for rare games. However, there is no guarantee this trend will continue, and it is somewhat surprising that prices appear to be rising this far ahead of the store’s closure.
As spotted by ComicBook, some games have already seen their prices increase by as much as four times. Puppeteer, for example, has reportedly been listed for more than $200 on eBay in some cases, while Folklore has climbed well above $100.
In other news, analysts say Sony’s decision to end PlayStation discs could shrink the $7 billion used games market.
