PlayStation’s ‘Wolverine’ To Bring Special DualSenses And PS5 Covers

We’re on a drip-feed of first-party PlayStation releases this generation, but after last week’s <a href="https://comicvibe.com/marvel-and-star-wars-to-meet-for-the-first-time-in-new-comic-series/” title=”Marvel and Star Wars to Meet For the First Time in New Comic Series”>Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls and April’s Saros, there’s yet another high-profile Sony game right around the corner.

Insomniac’s Wolverine releases in less than a month on September 15, 2026 and the comic book adventure is bringing a fresh batch of special DualSense controllers and console covers along with it.

First, the PS5 Digital Edition is getting the Wolverine treatment with the Battle Yellow Limited Edition bundle ($649.99), which comes with the console, the variant gamepad and a digital code for Wolverine. The console design, which was apparently helmed by Marvel graphic artist Jock, is refreshingly bold—complete with hand-drawn claw marks that let you peak inside Sony’s machine and see whirring fans and other internal components. The matching black and yellow DualSense also sports claw marks but isn’t translucent, sadly.

The new yellow cover will be sold separately for both the PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro (with and without disc drives for $74.99), as will the yellow Wolverine DualSense ($84.99), which is fantastic. No cover love for the standard disc drive PS5, it seems.

Furthermore, another limited edition console cover will be available specifically for existing PS5 Pro owners ($74.99), which seems to be the same design as the Digital Edition, only silver and black instead, in an adamantium-inspired fashion. There’s a matching DualSense for this metallic colorway, too ($84.99). I do think I prefer the yellow and black over the silver and black, but they’re both pretty striking.

It’s rather audacious of Sony to be promoting the all-digital PS5 in the wake of its controversial July announcement wherein the company stated it would be halting physical disc production for games by January of 2028. Predictably, the official post on X is being bombarded by users protesting PlayStation’s exclusively digital future, and though I think it’s an honorable stance, there’s probably slim (ha) chance Sony changes course. Digital is simply too profitable.

Gaming politics aside, I’m not sure exactly why you’d want to play Wolverine on a Digital Edition PS5, seeing how underpowered it is compared to the Pro. Basic affordability, I suppose, although affordability is becoming increasingly relative, given the current state of component prices.

It’s a shame Sony has backed away from releasing its first-party titles on PC, because that would honestly be the ideal way to play Insomniac’s latest, by way of a 5090 and plenty of RAM. Not that a 5090 is affordable by any stretch of the imagination, but it is the current best option when it comes to raw graphical performance.

Regardless, the game looks great and I’m looking forward to playing, even though this Fall is looking absolutely packed with stellar titles coming from all corners of the games industry. The Wolverine PS5 Digital Edition bundle and accompanying products will be available to pre-order
