With testing being done on a SteamOS Steam Deck, Asobi: Remote Play is a new way to play PlayStation games on Linux systems including cloud-streaming. For those of you still subscribing to the Sony ecosystem, this one is for you.
Asobi: Remote Play is already available on mobile, and they have a Steam Playtest ongoing for Linux (Windows is to come later).
- Connect to your own PS4® or PS5® console for remote streaming
- Sync app settings and console profiles across your devices
- Multiple local profiles for different users or setups
- 1080p / 30 fps SDR streaming
- Automatic bitrate adjustment based on your network
- Internet remote streaming support
- Console registration flow for supported consoles
- Optional cloud-streaming compatibility where available (“PlayStation Plus Premium subscription required for cloud streaming”)
This is not endorsed by Sony, but once again shows what a community / third-party can come up with to expand the possibilities of a platform. Also means Sony could block it at any time. Still, nice to see more options to play games you have elsewhere on your favourite devices – breaking down barriers.
