Shuhei Yoshida, former president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios from 2008 to 2019, oversaw the glory days of the PS3 and PS4 as hits like FromSoftware’s Bloodborne spruced up PlayStation’s exclusive lineup.

He recently addressed the mystery surrounding the game during a keynote at Japan’s Computer Entertainment Developers Conference (CEDEC) and a question that’s been on every gamer’s mind for the past decade: why did FromSoftware’s Bloodbornenever arrive on PC or receive a PS5 upgrade?

A long wait, but no clear answers yet

During the keynote, Yoshida discussed the games that shaped his 40-year career at Sony. He briefly touched on his hands-on playtime with the PS5 exclusive Demon’s Souls before finally addressing the elephant in the room: Bloodborne. Yoshida himself acknowledged that Bloodborneis one of PlayStation’s most highly requested remasters. The former SIE president said:

“This game (Bloodborne) has lots of fans all over the world, and it still doesn’t have a PS5 version. PlayStation’s first-party team is releasing a ton of remasters, so why don’t they release this one? There’s no PC release. I am often asked why these haven’t been released, but it’s still a complete mystery. Maybe they’ll come out in the future. Maybe they won’t. Maybe they’ll make a special edition. Maybe they won’t. As a huge fan, I hope it will come out.”

Earlier in 2025, Yoshida theorized on a podcast that director Hidetaka Miyazaki may simply be too busy and too protective of Bloodborneas an IP. Yoshida believes Miyazaki may be reluctant to hand over Bloodborne, which has been played by over 16 million PlayStation gamers, to another studio, and stated that Miyazaki “doesn’t want anyone else to touch it.”

It’s been over 11 years since Bloodborne launched on the PlayStation 4 in March 2015. The game sold 9.3 million units over its lifetime, and player counts reached 16 million when it became available on PlayStation Plus. The game received one expansion, The Old Hunters, on November 24, 2015, followed by a physical release bundle, Bloodborne: The Old HuntersEdition, which included a guidebook and a mini soundtrack CD, on December 13, 2015.

FromSoftware reportedly intended to release two separate DLCs for Bloodborne but merged them intoThe Old Hunters, effectively ending post-launch development of the critically acclaimed Soulslike.
