PlayStation Plus users will be able to claim a bunch of DLC when August’s free game drops land next week.

Last week, PlayStation announced thatDying Light 2: Stay Humanwas headlining the free game additions for PlayStation Plus Essential in August.

The game will join PlayStation Plus Essential from August 4, 2026, where you’ll be able to redeem it for your PlayStation account between then and September.

What’s interesting though is that the version of Dying Light 2 we’re getting is actually the Reloaded Edition, which includes all previous updates along with the game’s only major DLC, Bloody Ties.

As detailed in an FAQ published in 2024, the Dying Light 2 Reloaded Edition offers the ultimate zombie experience both to those who dabbled with Dying Light in the past and the newcomers alike.”

Altogether, this is about 10 major updates that the game received between 2022 and 2025, including the anniversary firearms update and the Nightmare mode update. It also features Bloody Ties, which was the first and only story DLC added to the game.

Not all Dying Light 2 updates have been well received by fans

Dying Light 2’s most recent update came earlier this summer, which introduced a few controversial changes to the game.

The Breach update introduces proper modding support, including on the console versions, which allows players to add new maps, challenges, game modes, and other custom content developed by official Techland developers as well as the community.

However, the patch also cut down the game’s prologue, which cuts out a severe amount of exposition to introduce you to the world of Dying Light 2. The role of Spike, who has appeared in all Dying Light games so far, is also dramatically cut down as a result.

Techland cut this down for pacing reasons, so players who wanted to jump into co-op could do so without sitting through a long single-player prologue. However, the first 30 minutes of Dying Light 2 has been consistently praised by fans since release, so it definitely seemed like an odd decision to cut.

Many fans at the time such as X (formerly Twitter) user The Hidden One saying there was “no logical reason” to remove this part of the game, going so far as to call it “lost media”.

Unfortunately, it seems like there isn’t a way to replay the Dying Light 2 prologue now short of getting a disc copy and playing it without installing any patches.

The other games coming to PlayStation Plus Essential this month have been confirmed to be Signalis and Big Walk.

Signalis is a Resident Evil-inspired horror game set in a dystopian future where you must unravel a cosmic mystery, escape terrifying creatures, and scavenge an off-world government facility.

Meanwhile, Big Walk is a multiplayer game developed by House House, creators of indie darling Untitled Goose Game, where you “hang out and get lost with close friends in a big world”.
