Netflix’s Death of the Pastor’s Wife documentary series is bringing thousands of new eyes to a Myrtle Beach resident’s death
The Netflix series follows the Mica Francis Miller case.
Throughout the three episodes, Mica’s family members and friends allege her estranged husband and former Solid Rock Church pastor John Miller stalked and abused her before her death.
Mica’s death in 2024 was ruled a suicide. The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office requested the FBI’s help investigating her death weeks later
During the federal investigation, agents interviewed John Paul. Allegedly false statements he gave investigators led to his indictment on federal charges in 2025.
John Paul was charged with one count of cyberstalking and one count of giving false statements to investigators.
The cyberstalking charge, which the government’s online court docket also describes as ‘interstate domestic violence’, alleges that from November 2022 to April 27 of 2024, the date of Mica’s death, John Paul used electronic communication “with the intent to kill, injure, harass, intimidate” his wife or place her “under surveillance”.
The government alleges John Paul’s behavior caused Mica to fear for her life.
The charge also claims that John Paul posted a nude photo of his estranged wife online without her consent, and placed a tracking device on her car.
The second count of the indictment charges Miller with lying to federal investigators.
In the document, attorneys allege that in an October 2024 interview, Miller lied about the number of times he called his estranged wife in one day, claiming she called him more than he called her.
The indictment claims John Paul called Mica at least 50 times more than she called him.
The indictment also alleges that John Paul told investigators police had never told him to stop contacting Mica, while the Horry County Police reported doing so on March 11, 2024.
Attorneys also claim John Paul falsely told investigators he had not damaged Mica’s car.
Miller has pleaded not guilty to both charges. The case has been delayed six times after motions filed by his attorneys, but online records say a pretrial hearing is scheduled for October 6.
