Being a Rockford Peach changed Anne Ramsay’s life.

And she knew it even before she donned the <a href="https://comicvibe.com/fifty-years-of-judge-dredd-celebrating-an-iconic-legacy/” title=”Fifty Years of Judge Dredd: Celebrating an Iconic Legacy”>iconic skirted costume for the beloved 1992 film, “A League of Their Own,” alongside director Penny Marshall and actors Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna and Rosie O’Donnell.

It was her first big job in Hollywood after a couple of pilots, a role as a series regular and a few guest-star spots, and she was thrilled to get what felt like the gig of a lifetime. The role helped ignite her career; soon after, she scored the role of Lisa Stemple, the sister of Helen Hunt’s character on the long-running sitcom “Mad About You.”

“It gave me a boost, at least in confidence. Knowing I just worked with Geena and Tom and Madonna and held my own,” Ramsay said from Los Angeles. “Now I could go into auditions having that foundation. All that work leads to more confidence and more work and when you’re confident you can go for more improvs. You go for more magic moments and it works out. ‘Mad About You,’ that character was fun to play and required spontaneous weirdness, which I loved.”

The film, about the first women’s professional baseball league in the 1940s, which got bankrolled during WWII, when Major League Baseball was on the brink of extinction, aligned with Ramsay’s passion for feminism and athletics.

And it still speaks to audiences today. Ramsay and four of her fellow Rockford Peaches from the film, including Lori Petty, will be among the celebrity guests at Colorado Springs Comic Con, the 10th iteration of the popular weekend event that pays homage to all things pop culture and attracts thousands. It’s Friday through Sunday at The Broadmoor World Arena.

“I like to remember the roots of how I got where I got,” Ramsay said. “It still resonates, especially with young women and now that we have a women’s professional baseball league. This movie is still giving and doing something. And that’s what art should do, is change the culture a little bit. Make people think.”

Also in attendance at the event will be stars from “The Flash,” “The Boys,” “The Mandalorian,” “Breaking Bad,” “New Zoo Revue,” “Hazbin Hotel,” “Boy Meets World,” “The Mighty Ducks” and “Return of the Jedi.”

“It’s a good opportunity for fans to come together and celebrate fandoms,” said Ben Beck, programming manager for Altered Reality Entertainment, which puts on the event. “It’s a good opportunity to meet celebrities you might ever get the opportunity to meet.”

    • The celebrities, of course: Check out the lineup of around 50 famous folks and plan who you want to meet, including Giancarlo Esposito from “The Boys,” “Breaking Bad” and “The Mandalorian,” and professional WWE wrestlers, such as Mick Foley, Killer Kross and Saraya aka Paige. You don’t have to buy a photo with them or an autograph; you can just say hi, I’m your biggest fan, but don’t do it in an Annie Wilkes from Stephen King’s “Misery” sort of way.

    • Comic book artists: Up to 10 artists will be on hand to chat and take photos with you, including Ariel Diaz, Ben Bishop and Bob Camp. Unfortunately, Beck says, conventions such as these are throttling back on bringing in these types of artists, so get your face time while you can. For example, Kevin Eastman, of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” fame, is getting ready to wrap up his attendance at cons, so say hi and goodbye.

    • Cosplay: It’s not Halloween yet, but you have full permission to dress up as your favorite pop culture character. Tug on that Wookiee costume, break out your green Incredible Hulk makeup, channel “Toy Story” or “The Transformers.” The adult contest for best costumes is Saturday night, and the one for kids is Sunday.

    • Panels: These are a chance to sit in a room with your favorite celeb and gently grill them. Ask actor Chris Bartlett what it’s like to wear the C-3PO costume, or actor Pam Grier about her worst audition. Anne Ramsay and the rest of her castmates from “A League of Their Own” will do a “Tales From the Dugout” panel at 3 p.m. Saturday.

    • Vendors: Many of them are from Colorado and sell custom-made items related to your favorite shows and icons.
