Parasyte: The Grey is streaming on Netflix now, and it’s a sharper live-action version of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s Parasyte than you might expect. Instead of running through the manga and anime beat for beat, it tells its own six-episode story in South Korea. The tension is still there. So is the body horror, along with the original’s nagging philosophical discomfort. What it avoids is the copycat feeling that dragged down earlier Netflix adaptations like Death Note and Cowboy Bebop.

That lands a little differently now, because Netflix has actually gotten better at this with shows like One Piece and Alice in Borderland. Netflix says One Piece season 2 reached 1.62 billion viewing minutes and 47.3 million views in the first half of 2026. Season 1 was still pulling people in too, adding another 21.5 million views.
The biggest shift here is Jeong Su-in’s connection to the parasite Heidi. Heidi can only take control of Jeong Su-in for 15 minutes a day, and that one change does a lot. It pushes the stakes up, makes every transformation feel like it costs something, and gives the series more room to build tension through the story instead of leaning on constant CGI-heavy back-and-forth. There’s also a live-action cameo from Shinichi Izumi and Migi, which confirms that Parasyte: The Grey exists in the same universe.
If you’ve been wanting a live-action anime adaptation that keeps what made the original work and actually changes the parts that need changing, this one’s easy to recommend.
All six episodes of Parasyte: The Grey are available to stream on Netflix.
