‘Out of Print’ podcast returns to recap summer pop culture

The FSView & Florida Flambeau is excited to announce the return of “Out of Print: An FSView Podcast,” produced by the Arts & Culture section. The podcast covers major moments in pop culture and Tallahassee events, and new episodes will highlight key events from the iconic summer of 2026.

“Out of Print” is hosted by Arts & Culture Editor Raquelle Elson and Senior Staff Writer Grace Myatt. It features guest appearances from other staff writers, alongside call-ins from students, professors, and Tallahassee locals.

Hot button issues

So much happened this summer, and the vast majority centered around the pop culture capital, New York City. Officials announced that Jamie Lloyd’s “Evita” revival, which starred Rachel Zegler on the West End, will come to Broadway in spring 2027.

However, the iconic balcony scene in which Zegler sang to people on the streets rather than in the theater will not make the journey across the pond, sparking discussion about safety differences.

The New York Knicks won the NBA championship for the first time in 53 years on June 13 in a competition that turned many into a New Yorker.

Their hometown arena also made headlines when Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce married in Madison Square Garden on July 3. Details of the wedding were so easily accessible that they sparked conversation about celebrity privacy.

“Love Island USA” aired its eighth season from June 2 to July 12, once again captivating the country with stories of love, drama, and friendship. 

Let’s go to the movies

This summer continued the successful run for both indie and horror movies. Kane Parsons’ “Backrooms” was a major success, topped only by Curry Barker’s “Obsession.” Both had critical and box office success that many believe might signal a change within the film industry.

Not all of this summer’s movies were good indicators. RuPaul’s “Stop! That! Train!” and Eli Roth’s “Ice Cream Man” came under fire after being called out for AI-generated sequences.
