COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) —Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson announced efforts to lead a class-action lawsuit against a popular gaming developer for allegedly misleading investors about child safety protections.

Wilson’s office filed a motion Friday against Roblox on behalf of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System and the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio.

The suit alleges Roblox lied to investors, marketing itself as a safe, family-friendly gaming platform while child predators took advantage of an unregulated digital space.

According to the filing, misrepresentation led to billions of dollars in losses, including more than $20 million within Ohio retirement systems.

Wilson noted in April, Roblox announced mandatory age verification and communication limits between kids and adults stunted user growth and lowered the developer’s annual revenue projection by $1 billion.

Wilson said the move trigged stock to tumble 18%, translating to $6 billion in market value. The lawsuit seeks compensation for financial losses.

Also back in April, West Virginia Attorney General JB McCuskey announced an $11 million settlement with Roblox over child safety.
