A clip from a behind-the-scenes video for Supergirl, featuring director Craig Gillespie and actor Jason Momoa examining apparently AI-generated concept art of Lobo, has begun to circulate online. You can look at a few screenshots below:

The clip was taken from the video Jason Momoa as Lobo/DC Dream Behind The Scenes, which has now been made private. Per the Internet Archive, the video was uploaded to the Warner Bros. Entertainment channel on YouTube on Tuesday, August 11. The description reads, “Jason Momoa turns into Lobo in this behind the scenes piece showing the DC dream come to life and the inspiration behind the comic booj=k [sic] characters.” The featurette is presumably the same as The DC Dream: Lobo, which came packaged with the film’s digital release last month.

While the art seen in the footage may not be AI-generated, the video’s removal will likely spark a Streisand effect about the film’s production. At the time of writing, no one involved with the film has publicly commented on the controversy. However, producer James Gunn previously told Rolling Stone before the release of Superman that he disliked AI, comparing his feelings to Lex Luthor’s hatred of the Man of Steel. “That sort of obsession with being replaced, with being — with your gifts not being seen or passed over — I think is what drives Lex,” he said. “I relate to everything he does. He’s just meaner than I am.”

Unlike its 2025 predecessor, Supergirl proved to be a critical and commercial disappointment on its release earlier this year, grossing only approximately $126 million worldwide, against a $170 million budget. However, lead actress Milly Alcock‘s performance was well-received, earning her this year’s Critics’ Choice Super Award for Best Actress in a Superhero Movie. She will next appear as the Maiden of Might in Gunn’s Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, due out in theaters on July 9, 2027.

In the meantime, From Comic to Screen: The Art of Supergirl, a book exploring the creation of the film and itsctober 27. Perhaps its release will shed more light on the movie’s development, and any AI-generated imagery that might have been used
