The Octopath Traveler series is expanding on Nintendo Switch 2 with native versions of Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler 2. Both will launch as digital downloads today

News about this just dropped during an anniversary live stream. Square Enix held the event to celebrate the series’ eighth anniversary

We’re waiting to hear about what exactly will be included in these new Nintendo Switch 2 versions. The game content should be identical, but if nothing else, there should be a resolution bump

Octopath Traveler 1 and 2 were previously playable on Nintendo Switch 2ersion of Octopath Traveler 0

Here are overviews of both games:

    Octopath Traveler

Eight travelers. Eight adventures. Eight roles to play. Embark on an epic journey across the vast and wondrous world of Orsterra and discover the captivating stories of each of the eight travelers

    • Play as eight different characters, each with their own stories to uncover and side quests to complete
    • Explore the enchanting yet perilous world of Orsterra, spanning 8 vast regions and discover each character’s full story as their journey unfolds
    • Use each character’s distinctive abilities (Path Actions), skills and talents in frenetic battles
    • Enjoy the accessible yet deep turn-based combat battle system and break through enemy lines by identifying and targeting their weaknesses
    • Solve side quests and story scenarios in a few different ways and take decisions that shape your path.
    • Experience visuals inspired by retro 2D RPGs with beautiful realistic elements set in a 3D world

    Octopath Traveler 2

The story takes place in Solistia, a land comprising an eastern and western continent divided by the sea

It is a bustling era, wherein large vessels navigate busy sea routes and the power of steam gives birth to new technologies

Some people thrill to glamorous stars of the stage and industry, while others are brought to tears by war, plague, and poverty

In this faraway realm, eight travelers hailing from different regions venture forth for their own reasons. Step into their shoes and explore the land as you see fit, using their unique talents to aid you along your journey

Embark on an adventure all your own

Begin your adventure as one of eight new travelers, each with their own origins, motivations, and unique skills

    Key Features

    • The series’ HD-2D graphics, a fusion of retro pixel art and 3DCG, have reached even greater heights.
    • The story takes place in Solistia, where diverse cultures thrive from east to west and the industries of the new era flourish. You can sail the seas and explore every corner of a world that changes from day to night.
    • Each traveler has a unique set of Path Actions they can use to battle townspeople, obtain items, take others along in their travels, and more. Where will you go? What will you do? Every path is yours to take.
    • Familiar mechanics from the original game have been preserved, like the freedom to develop your travelers’ jobs and skills, as well as the Break and Boost system that made battles so exhilarating. New mechanics have also been added.
