TL;DR: ProsperoEden, an early-alpha <a href="https://comicvibe.com/super-shooting-gallery-battle-announced-for-nintendo-switch/” title=”Super Shooting Gallery Battle announced for Nintendo Switch”>Nintendo Switch emulator for jailbroken PS5 consoles, runs natively without Linux and uses OpenGL. Cuphead reaches a fairly steady 60 FPS, while performance varies widely in other games, with some running slowly or crashing.

Nintendo Switch emulation continues, even though Nintendo has been doing its best to scrub and remove Yuzu-based emulation projects from the internet. ProsperoEden, based on the Eden fork, is an unofficial PlayStation 5 port of the Nintendo Switch emulator. What makes this impressive is that it runs natively on PS5 hardware, no Linux required.
However, it requires a jailbroken console. Interestingly, this Nintendo Switch emulator for PS5 uses OpenGL, not Vulkan, and the developers have optimized it for specific games. The current ProsperoEden v1.000.010 release is listed as an Early Alpha, so performance varies by title, but the results are impressive for a project that seems to improve with every release.

The side-scrolling platformer Cuphead runs at a relatively stable 60 FPS while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Metroid Dread average around 40 FPS. The popular multiplayer racer runs at a solid 60 FPS on actual Switch hardware, so that one still has a ways to go before it’s deemed playable. As for two of the most popular games on the Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Pokemon Legends Z-A, it’s a different story.
Although The Legend of Zelda hit 30 FPS in the menu, performance drops to an average of 8 to 10 FPS once you enter the game. Pokemon Legends Z-A fares even worse, barely hitting 6 FPS at startup before crashing. As we’ve seen with recent developments in PlayStation 5 emulation on PC, Nintendo Switch emulation on PlayStation is following a similar trajectory. Some games are already playable, while most still run into issues.

Naturally, being able to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on a PS5 with the DualSense controller on a 4K TV is a pretty, well, wild idea, and something that could be a reality sooner rather than later. To follow the development and progress, check out the ProsperoEden page on GitHub.
