Nintendo released the Nintendo Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition on 29 October 2026 at $519.99 in the US, and the console sold out on Nintendo’s own online store the same day, Polygon reported. The system carries Triforce motifs and ships without a game, according to Nintendo’s release.

Nintendo announced the console on 8 September 2026 with a Japanese price of 62,980 yen including tax. Polygon said the reveal came during a Nintendo Direct showcase in September.

Nintendo puts Triforce motifs on the back of the system, the Switch 2 Dock and the Joy-Con 2 controllers. The US store listing adds a golden Triforce on the front of the black and gold dock, with Joy-Con 2 controllers in green and gold. Polygon described triangle decals clustered around a Triforce symbol and the Hylian Crest.

The box holds the system, two Joy-Con 2 controllers, two wrist straps, the dock, a Joy-Con 2 Grip, an AC adapter, a USB-C charging cable and an HDMI cable.

“This product does not come with a game,” the release says. The same note appears beneath each of the two matching accessories.

    Pro Controller and carrying case

Two accessories with matching designs went on sale on the same day. A Switch 2 Pro Controller with a display stand costs 12,980 yen in Japan, Nintendo said, and $99.99 in the US, $10 more than a standard Pro Controller A carrying case with a screen protector costs 3,980 yen in Japan

In Japan the console is sold only as the Japanese-language system, Nintendo said.

The US listing gives the system 256GB of internal storage, expandable with microSD Express cards, and a 7.9-inch 1080p screen. Connected to a TV through the included dock, compatible games run at up to 4K resolution, with frame rates capped at 60 fps for 4K output. The Joy-Con 2 controllers attach magnetically and offer mouse controls in compatible games.

    Sold out twice

Preorders opened in early September and sold out almost immediately, Polygon reported. On 29 October Nintendo put fresh stock on its own online store, and the listing showed the console as out of stock shortly after the company announced the restock, with stock going in and out of availability as the site took the traffic.

“Just like last time, the console is already sold out,” Polygon’s Michael McWhertor wrote.

The Pro Controller showed as sold out, and Polygon found no fresh stock of the carrying case. Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Walmart also appeared to be sold out of the console on 29 October
