Nintendo Switch 2 revised teardown reveals the handheld uses the same LCD screen as the original

    What you need to know

Nintendo’s revised Switch 2 is easier to repair, with a user-replaceable battery and internal changes, but retains the original LCD screen and NVIDIA chip. The teardown suggests this is a manufacturing refresh, not a performance upgrade; the rumored Sharp panel was not found.

A teardown of Nintendo’s revised Switch 2 verifies what many hoped against. The display hasn’t changed. Polish technician @Modyfikator89 on X opened up a European V2 unit and compared it directly with the original hardware, and the results were simple. Nintendo used the same screen for the revamped Switch 2 as they did for the original.

The updated console is marked OSM-CPU-01 on the motherboard, versus the original BEE-CPU-01, bringing a few practical adjustments. The biggest, most obvious change is that the battery is now user-replaceable without the usual adhesive struggle.

Beyond that, the motherboard layout is reworked, the fan is a different variant, and it still has 12GB of RAM, but from a different supplier. The NVIDIA chip itself is the same revision. In simpler words, this is a manufacturing and repairability refresh, not a performance upgrade.

What the handheld doesn’t feature is the Sharp-assembled LCD panel that surfaced on Chinese reseller sites earlier this year (model LS079T1SX10P). That panel kept the same 7.9-inch 1080p resolution but features different circuitry and cabling, leading to suggestions that it might improve pixel response times and reduce the ghosting some players have seen on the original Innolux-based screen.

Side-by-side comparison of V1 and V2 handheld console cooling fan assemblies, with red circles highlighting differences in their connectors and ribbon cables.

The technician says he’s still collecting data from more units and bundles to see whether any production batches include the newer panel, but so far the evidence points to no change.

As we reported earlier, an FCC filing suggests that Nintendo’s EU-compliant Switch 2 revision could also be coming to the US. With this teardown revealing the changes Nintendo has made to the European model, it’s likely the US version will feature many of the same updates.

What does the FCC filing reveal about a US release of the revised Nintendo Switch 2 and which changes might carry over?

An FCC filing suggests Nintendo’s EU-compliant Switch 2 revision could come to the US, but it does not establish a release date. If it does, it may carry over the easier-to-replace battery, reworked motherboard, different fan variant and RAM from a different supplier found in the European unit. That unit still has 12GB of RAM, the same NVIDIA chip revision and the same LCD screen as the original.

How can owners identify the revised Nintendo Switch 2 by its OSM-CPU-01 motherboard compared with the original BEE-CPU-01?

The revised Switch 2 has OSM-CPU-01 marked on its motherboard; the original has BEE-CPU-01. Identifying it by that marking requires seeing the motherboard, as the teardown does not give an external identifier.

Do performance tests show a difference between the revised and original Nintendo Switch 2?

No performance tests comparing the revised and original Switch 2 are reported. The teardown found the same NVIDIA chip revision and 12GB of RAM, and describes the revision as a manufacturing and repairability refresh rather than a performance upgrade.

Does the revised Nintendo Switch 2’s different fan variant affect cooling or noise?

The teardown identifies a different fan variant but gives no cooling or noise measurements, so it does not establish whether either has changed. The revision is described as a manufacturing and repairability refresh, not a performance upgrade.

That said, the simplified battery-swapping process is a nice quality-of-life win, especially in regions with stronger right-to-repair laws, but that alone doesn’t seem convincing enough to ditch your original Switch 2. The wished-for display fix will have to wait, whether that means a better LCD or the long-rumored OLED model.
