Based on the latest data from Circana, Nintendo Switch 2 is no-longer the fastest-selling console in the United States.
Circana recently sent out its report from September, which reveals that Nintendo Switch 2 sales are down 12 percent year-over-year. If you were to only look at that statistic, you might be concerned – but there’s more to the story.
According to Circana’s Mat Piscatella, Nintendo Switch 2 is still doing “very well.” He had this to say about the system’s performance:
“The comps are weird on Switch 2 because it’s rare that such a successful device in its first year doesn’t have supply constraints. I’m not seeing anything to be concerned about in the Switch 2 numbers at all, and I’m sure it’s going to pop with Zelda.
The price increase took effect [in September]. What they did was pretty smart. They dropped the Mario Kart World bundle, went to a standalone SKU, maintained the price point, and so effectively on shelf there wasn’t a significant price change.”
Even with everything said here, Nintendo has what should be its biggest game of 2026 dropping imminently. Of course, that’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Nintendo also just shipped a special 40th anniversary Switch 2 console.
“People are going to buy the hell out of the Zelda [Switch 2], and on eBay you’ll be able to find one for $4,000 if you want,” Piscatella said.
We also have a bit of news from a different part of the world. The Game Business reports that UK sales for Nintendo Switch 2 “remain strong,” and in September, unit sales increased by 17 percent year-over-year while October sales are up 2.2 percent.
