Nintendo reported a 12.1% decrease in net sales for the six months ended September 30, 2026, primarily due to reduced hardware sales.

Operating profit increased 49.1% to ¥216.5 billion ($1.3 billion), supported by steady software sales from new titles such as Splatoon Raiders alongside a first quarter US tariff refund.

Nintendo noted that the tariffs “related to the refunds were primarily borne by the company rather than passed on to consumers through product prices.”

    The numbers

For the six months ending September 30, 2026

    • Net sales:Â¥966 billion ($6.1 billion), down 12.1%
    • Operating profit:Â¥216.5 billion ($1.3 billion), up 49.1%
    • Ordinary profit: Â¥300.6 billion ($1.9 billion), up 27.4%
    • Hardware sales (incl. Switch and Switch 2): 7.76 million units
    • Software sales (incl. Switch and Switch 2):90.22 million units

    The highlights

Although software unit sales increased, revenue from Nintendo’s dedicated video game platform segment declined 15.3% to Â¥903.3 billion ($5.7 billion).

Switch 2 hardware sales declined 37.4% to 6.49 million units, compared to 10.36 million last year. Nintendo stated that despite this decrease, “many consumers continued to adopt the system, spurred on by factors like the release of new titles.”

Notable releases included Splatoon Raiders in July (2.42 million units), Star Fox in June (1.17 million), and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave in September (1.34 million). Overall, Switch 2 software sales rose 18.8% to 24.49 million units, up from 20.62 million last year.

Original Switch hardware sales decreased 32.7% to 1.27 million units, down from 1.89 million last year. The OLED model led sales with 63,000 units, followed by the OG Switch at 35,000 and the Lite at 29,000.

Software sales increased 6.8% to 65.73 million units, driven by Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream (8.81 million) and Rhythm Heaven Groove (2.89 million).

Digital sales represented 60.7% of total software sales, totaling ¥249.6 billion ($1.5 billion), reflecting higher demand for downloadable versions of packaged software.

“We aim to grow the Nintendo Switch 2 installed base by working to expand sales of existing titles and continuously introducing these new titles. Software publishers also plan to release a range of titles,” Nintendo said.

New titles for the next financial period include Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, and Metroid Ravenous in January 2027.

“While working to bring Nintendo Switch 2 to more consumers, we will also leverage the Nintendo Switch hardware installed base and rich software lineup to expand software sales and maintain engagement.”
