For those who might need a recap of the 28 year old game, it follows the diminutive hero Link — not the titular Princess Zelda, which many commonly mistake him for — as he works to rescue the land of Hyrule from the evil Ganondorf.
The game’s time-twisting ocarina mechanic, helpful fairy character — with her nagging and repetitive “hey, listen” refrain — and diverse world helped make the game into a title that has been beloved by gamers for decades.
And, with the new release for the Nintendo Switch 2, many seemed excited for a taste of nostalgia.
At a Gamestop in Roxborough, gamers Ethan and Matt, both of Conshohocken, said they have been waiting for the remade game for sometime.
“This remake has been years in the making so we have been super excited and we had to make it out to the midnight launch,” said Ethan. “I’m probably going to be playing it all night and I’ll probably call out of work in the morning.”

For Anthony Woody, who also waited in line at Gamestop, the chance to relive childhood memories was worth waiting outside overnight.
“I can’t wait to play this game. I’ve been waiting for this one for awhile, man,” he said.
At a Best Buy in Plymouth Meeting, gamers were lined up to purchase a special edition Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Switch 2 console, as well.
