In our dedicated video game platform business in the first half of the fiscal year (April through September 2026), Nintendo Switch 2 maintained strong sales momentum, with hardware sales totaling 6.49 million units. Looking at Nintendo Switch 2 software, Star Fox, released in June, sold 1.17 million units, Splatoon Raiders, released in July, sold 2.42 million units, and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, released in September, sold 1.34 million units. In addition, Mario Kart World and Pokémon Pokopia (see note), released in the previous fiscal year, also sold well, with the result that Nintendo Switch 2 software sales totaled 24.49 million units.
As for Nintendo Switch, hardware sales totaled 1.27 million units. Looking at Nintendo Switch software, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, released in April, and Rhythm Heaven Groove, released in July, have shown strong growth, with sales reaching 8.81 million units and 2.89 million units, respectively. Given that consumers can also play Nintendo Switch software with Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch titles released in past fiscal years have also shown stable sales. As a result, Nintendo Switch software sales totaled 65.73
million units.Turning to the digital business for our dedicated video game platforms, digital sales totaled 249.6 billion yen, up 60.5% year-on-year, mainly due to an increase in sales of downloadable versions of packaged software.
In our IP related business, sales reached 62.7 billion yen, up 87.9% year-on-year, thanks to the high level of audience engagement with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
The end result is that overall sales totaled 966.0 billion yen (with sales outside of Japan of 762.4 billion yen accounting for 78.9% of the total). Although sales declined year-on-year due to lower hardware unit sales, operating profit rose 49.1% to 216.5 billion yen. This increase was driven by steady software sales, which accounted for a larger share of total sales, and a first-quarter refund of U.S. IEEPA tariffs previously recorded as cost of sales. Ordinary profit totaled 300.6 billion yen, including 60.8 billion yen in share of profit of entities accounted for using equity method and interest income of 26.7 billion yen. Profit attributable to owners of parent totaled 220.9 billion yen.
There are no changes to the original financial forecast for this fiscal year that was published on May 8, 2026.
For Nintendo Switch 2, we continue to aim to deliver both hardware and software into the hands of a wide range of consumers. On the hardware front, we launched Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition in October, featuring a special design commemorating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. Looking at software, in addition to Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, released in October, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, released in November, titles scheduled for release include Metroid Ravenous in January. We aim to grow the Nintendo Switch 2 installed base by working to expand sales of existing titles and continuously introducing these new titles. Software publishers also plan to release a range of titles. While working to bring Nintendo Switch 2 to more consumers, we will also leverage the Nintendo Switch hardware installed base and rich software lineup to expand software sales and maintain engagement.
