A new English trailer for Yoko Taro’s upcomingNeon Genesis Evangelionseries, simply titledEvangelion, is making the rounds online today after being revealed at CloverWorks’s Anime Expo 2026 panel.
The series is set to be directed by Tôko Yatabe (key animator for the likes ofMob Psycho 100,Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, andWeathering with You) and Kazuya Tsurumaki (key animator forEvangelion: 1.0,Evangelion: 2.0, andEvangelion: 3.0+1.01), with the soundtrack being composed by Taro’s longstandingNieRcontributor, Keiichi Okabe
Yoko Taro himself will be producing the series’ screenplay, while the animation duties will be handled by CloverWorks and Studio Khara, the latter of which animated the last threeNeon Genesis Evangelionmovies

Beyond that, we don’t actually know much aboutEvangelion. In fact, this is the second time that the series has been announced–this is just the first time we’ve received an official English translation for the trailer that was originally shown off in February
While fans are seemingly quite excited for the project, they’re also equally confused as to what exactly the point of it is, considering that the final film in the Rebuild of Evangelion series,Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, seemed like a rather conclusive end to the story
Still, it’s cool nonetheless, if only because Yoko Taro himself has previously stated thatNeon Genesis Evangelionwas the main inspiration behindNieR. In aninterviewwith Square Enix last year, Taro was asked what inspired him to makeNieR, and he only had one answer: “DefinitelyEvangelion. But then, everything I make is influenced byEvangelion.”
Well, I guess that will still be the case moving forward, as his newEvangelionproject will hopefully be influenced byNeon Genesis Evangelion. No word on a release date yet, but I’d be surprised if we see this before the end of 2027
