    Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day may be shattering box office records, but the brand’s recent animated movies — 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,centered on Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales as Spidey — have attracted more views across household televisions, according to new Nielsen data.

From January 2023 through July 2026, American viewers have watched more than 121 billion minutes of “Spider-Man” movies and TV series. But 12.3 billion minutes alone have been viewed for “Spider-Man” animated movies across TV and streaming — 16% more than for the three feature films starring Tom Holland and Zendaya.

On a per-film basis, the gap widens further: character Miles averages more than 6 billion minutes per movie, roughly double any live-action Spider-Man with original Spidey Peter Parker.

This lead in viewership may also be attributed to the animated format. Animation often fosters higher rewatchability, particularly among children, who are more likely to watch the same films repeatedly compared to live-action audiences

Into the Spider-Verse logged nearly 2 billion minutes in the first half of 2026 alone, as the film reached wide streaming availability in what is turning out to be a big year for the franchise.

Animated series such as “Spidey and His Amazing Friends” (featuring both Peter and Miles) often generate higher total viewing minutes because they feature a significantly higher volume of episodes compared to movies, providing more content for younger audiences to rewatch frequently

In fact, “Spidey and His Amazing Friends” has logged in 73.7 billion minutes viewed compared to 38.2 billion for all 10 Spider-Man live-actions movies combined.

Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios’ recent live-action series “Spider-Noir,” featuring Nicolas Cage, is mirroring the animated trend, generating 2.6 billion minutes viewed in the show’s first six weeks since its May 25 release.
