Nicolas Cage has seemingly confirmed that he will appear in the next season ofTrue Detective.
It was first reported last year that the 62-year-old National Treasure and Con Airstar was in talks to join the show, which is expected to be written by True Detective: Night Countryshowrunner Issa López.
During an appearance this weekend at New York Comic Con, Cage teased that the rumors are indeed true.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cage discussed his future plans on stage and revealed that as he “can only do so many movies back to back” he is “probably going to do another season of television.”
Cage recently made his television debut as the lead in Amazon’s Spider-Noir, but the show was cancelled after just one season.

Cage told the crowd: “I think I might do a season of True Detective. That’s OK that I’m the first to announce that, right? Like Jonathan Turteltaub, he gets a microphone in his hand and he goes to Philadelphia and says, ‘We’re doing National Treasure 3, and Nic’s coming. I’m like, ‘No, I didn’t sign up for that.’ You got to get these microphones out of these directors’ hands.”
He added: “We’ll see if I want to get together with it.”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Cage also revealed that he refused to sign a waiver approving the use of AI during the making of Spider-Noir.
“How do you survive AI?” he asked. “Amazon is a very AI friendly company to the tune of 50 billion dollars invested to OpenAI. I am not an AI friendly actor. I didn’t sign the waiver to let them use AI on Spider-Noir. It’s kind of like I’m probably not going to be working with that studio again. But that’s OK.”
Little is known about the forthcoming new season of True Detective, which is reportedly set to arrive on screens in 2027.
Series creator Nic Pizzolatto served as showrunner for the first three seasons of True Detective, with Issa López taking over for the polarising fourth season and forthcoming fifth.
True Detectiveseason one focused on detectives Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson) as they investigated a spate of ritualistic murders in Louisiana.
The second season starred Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn, while the third starred Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff.
Jodie Foster and Kali Reis headed up the show’s frosty fourth season, subtitled Night Country, which aired on HBO.
