New streaming deal changes how Rangers fans watch games this season

Fans knew that New York Rangers hockey was going to look different this season, mostly given the roster turnover from the offseason, and now they can look forward to a change in how they will watch the games. It has been announced that the Gotham Sports App is going away, and there will be a much better way for fans to stream their Rangers at home and on the go.

    Gotham Sports App is out!

The much maligned, expensive, and often malfunctioning Gotham Sports App (launched in 2024) is going away, and instead fans can now watch through DAZN.

Yankees, Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Devils, Islanders and Sabres games are going to have a new streaming home.

MSG Networks and the YES Network will move their streaming exclusively to DAZN for the 2026-27 NBA and NHL season. The exact timing hasn’t been settled yet.

DAZN has been in existence for nearly two decades, and they are an established leader in live and on-demand sports including MMA, boxing, and soccer. They also have been the home for the NHL in nearly 200 countries outside of the U.S., Canada, and Nordic nations of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden since the start of the 2025-26 NHL season.

The addition of MSG Network properties and YES Network will greatly simplify streaming New York sports as this move brings the Rangers, New York Knicks, New York Yankees, Brooklyn Nets, Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders, and New Jersey Devils under one banner. The New York Mets have their own network, SNY, and they have a partnership with MLB to stream through their app and network.

This news should be a massive win for fans, as I’d imagine the pricing will be much better. Customers who had access to MSG and YES Network through cable could authenticate with their account in the app to stream, and I imagine the same will be true for DAZN.

Those who cut the cord and just paid for streaming had it pretty rough previously. If you had the bundle of MSG and YES, you paid $34.99 a month or $299.99 per year which was outrageous. MSG+ alone was $29.99 per month or $279.99 a year, another big rip off.

The official timeline for transition has not been announced yet, and there certainly will be a follow up release which talks about pricing. As it stands, a yearly DAZN subscription is $249 a year for the standard tier ($24.99 per month) or $449.99 per year ($44.99 per month) for DAZN’s ultimate tier. The standard tier requires additional PPV fees, and the ultimate tier has a minimum of 12 major PPV events.

In any case, the value proposition is much better under this new format, and I imagine there will be options for those who could care less about combat sports.
