Welcome to your end-of-week roundup of everything new on Netflix US! As we officially cross over into August, Netflix has refreshed its library with a massive first-of-the-month drop. With a staggering 75 new releases (63 movies and 12 series) hitting the platform over the past seven days, with 50 of those dropping on the first alone, your late-summer watchlists are about to get seriously packed.
Whether you are looking for high-octane blockbusters, critically acclaimed psychological thrillers, or a hefty dose of true crime, this first-of-the-month haul has brought a little bit of everything to the table.

Best New Movies and Shows on Netflix This Week
A Quiet Place: Day One (2024)

Added all the way at the beginning of the week, this gripping prequel to John Krasinski’s massive horror franchise is an absolute must-watch. Starring Academy Award-winner Lupita Nyong’o and Stranger Things breakout Joseph Quinn, the film takes us back to the terrifying first day of the alien invasion, dropping viewers right into the chaotic, sound-sensitive destruction of New York City. It is a tense, emotional, and thrilling blockbuster that is already making major waves on the Netflix charts.
The Fast & Furious Franchise

Genre: Action, Thriller
If you’re looking for the ultimate popcorn-munching weekend marathon, Netflix just dropped a massive chunk of the Fast & Furious cinematic universe, which is the latest time the majority of movies were added all at once, with the last stint being between November 2024 and January 2025. Ranging from the gritty street racing origins of the 2001 original all the way through the gravity-defying, globe-trotting heights of Furious 7, you can now binge the first seven installments of Dominic Toretto’s “family” saga to your heart’s content. It’s a good time to catch up on the final movie in the franchise (probably not, let’s be honest), which is due for release in March 2028.
Hannibal (Seasons 1-3)

Bryan Fuller’s critically acclaimed, visually stunning, and delightfully grotesque psychological thriller has finally made its way back to Netflix for the first time in five years, with its previous stint from back in 2020 through 2021. Starring Mads Mikkelsen in a career-defining performance as the brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter, and Hugh Dancy as the tortured FBI special investigator Will Graham, this cat-and-mouse game is a masterpiece of modern television. If you have the stomach for it, this is a phenomenal weekend binge.
The Kid Detective (2020)
Type: Movie
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Mystery | Runtime: 1h 40m
If you are looking for an under-the-radar hidden gem to watch this weekend, this brilliant dark comedy is an absolute must-stream for the first of the month roster.
Adam Brody, who can be found in your Netflix accounts via Nobody Wants This, delivers one of the best performances of his career as Abe Applebaum, a once-famous, Encyclopedia Brown-esque childhood sleuth who is now a washed-up, hungover, and deeply depressed adult in his thirties. Still solving petty mysteries for kids, his life takes a drastic turn when a high schooler hires him to solve his first actual murder. What starts as a quirky comedy slowly transforms into a genuinely gripping, surprisingly dark noir thriller that will keep you guessing right up until its shocking final act.

Now, let’s take a look at what people have actually been watching on Netflix US over the past seven days!
Over on the Movies list, Netflix’s slate of brand-new original thrillers and romances completely dominated. 72 HOURS has shot straight to the top of the chart to claim the #1 spot with 80 points, pushing A Toxic Love Story into a very respectable second place (72 points).
Last week’s highlight, Ordinary Angels, is continuing to pull at the heartstrings of subscribers, firmly securing the #3 spot (62 points). We’re also already seeing the impact of the massive August 1st drop, with our highlight A Quiet Place: Day One instantly popping onto the board at #7 (30 points) despite only just arriving on the platform!

On the TV Series charts, word of mouth has officially done its job! As we predicted in our recap last week, the neo-Western drama Ransom Canyon steadily climbed the ranks and has officially claimed the #1 spot with 76 points, dethroning the original series The Hawk (65 points).
Further down the list, true crime programming is making a massive push for your weekend viewing time. Both of the brand-new original documentary series added this week—The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare (#7) and The Bombing of Pan Am 103 (#11)—made immediate, splashy debuts on the charts. Meanwhile, Little House on the Prairie and Harlan Coben’s I Will Find You continue to prove they have incredible staying power, remaining firmly locked in the top 10.
