On October 23, Bandai Namco Filmworks announced the production of a new Ghost in the Shell anime.
This new project is based on Masamune Shirow’s original manga Ghost in the Shell, with the title revealed as Ghost in the Shell (working title). Animation production will be handled by Science SARU, following the TV anime THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, which began airing and streaming in July this year.
Science SARU is the animation studio behind DAN DA DAN, INU-OH, and The Colors Within. Alongside the announcement, a key visual promoting the new anime production was also released.
Ghost in the Shell is based on the sci-fi manga released by Masamune Shirow in 1989. Set in a near future where cyborg technology and information networks are highly advanced, it depicts the exploits of Motoko Kusanagi and Public Security Section 9. In 1995, an animated feature film directed by Mamoru Oshii was released, and the franchise has since expanded into TV anime, a Hollywood live-action film, games, and various other media.
Meanwhile, specific details regarding the new project’s plot, release schedule, and format have not yet been announced. Bandai Namco Filmworks plans to reveal further information sequentially through its official social media channels.
