A brand-new convention in Austin is bringing fans of Final Fantasy together like never before in Central Texas

Austin City: Limit Break is a fan-driven event celebrating all things Final Fantasy XIV, the massively multiplayer online role-playing game, or MMORPG for short.

New pop culture expo coming to downtown Austin

The convention is the first of its kind in Austin, as most of the conventions held for this particular game are mostly held on the East or West Coast, according to co-organizers Nell Fitch and Anastasia Marston, who also play the game.

“We’ve seen a lot of things that we like, a lot of things that we would do better,” the organizers said. “We really wanted to bring the sort of feeling that official fan fest meant to a more local scale.”

Nell and Anastasia have seen the demand for an event like this in Central Texas. So to test the waters, they are holding a smaller, one-day event, with the hopes of eventually growing Austin City: Limit Break into an annual convention or a pop-up event that could run throughout the year at local businesses.

Inside Austin’s booming trading card economy: Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh and six-figure collectibles

“There’s a pretty huge demand locally for people who liked the game,” they said.

According to the duo, a recent collaboration between Gong Cha and Final Fantasy, where fans could get special prizes with drink purchases, saw items sell out within two days across Austin.

The event will feature plenty of activities for fans, including an artist market, photo opportunities with custom backdrops, arts and crafts, panels, and even a cosplay showcase to show off the handiwork of fans.

Over 40k fans to attend ‘Super Bowl of Gaming’ at Moody Center this weekend

“It’s really just a good opportunity to come out and meet other like-minded fans and to have fun and just kind of relax in this space where everyone is kind of a nerd and a fan of the same thing,” they said.

Austin City: Limit Break will take place Sept. 5, 2026, at the Courtyard Marriott Convention Center in Austin. For more details, just visit ACLimitBreak.carrd.co.
