Netflix is expanding its roster of Roald Dahladaptations with a brand new series. The streamer has ordered a show based on the popular author’s short stories for adults, with Nicola Coughlan set to star.
According to a recent Tudum by Netflix announcement, the streamer has brought Fool Me Once writer Danny Brocklehurst on board to helm a six-part drama series. The show will adapt some of Roald Dahl’s iconic short stories for adults, featuring several macabre themes and characters.
The upcoming show will star Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan alongside The Crown star Imelda Staunton and The Wire actor Dominic West. Other notable cast members include Naomi Scott, Josh Finan, Toby Jones, Carmen Ejogo, Christine Tremarco, Michael Socha, and Clarke Peters.
Netflix acquired the Roald Dahl Story Company, the organization that manages the copyrights of the author, in 2021. It offers several adaptations of the author’s work in its streaming library. These include The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Three More, The Twits, Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, and more.
Most recently, Netflix also announced a competition series, The Golden Ticket, based on the world of Willy Wonka.
How Netflix’s new Roald Dahl series reimagines the author’s macabre short stories
Netflix’s upcoming Roald Dahl series will bring some of the darkest tales crafted by the author to the screen. The untitled series centers on a young couple finding themselves in different adaptations of Dahl’s stories across six episodes. The streamer has not revealed which stories the show will adapt.
The official logline for the show reads, “Brocklehurst weaves a deliciously twisted tale made up of Roald Dahl’s iconic short stories for adult audiences. A young couple, marooned in a faded seaside town, must face con men, adulterers, murderous mothers, and snake charmers as they attempt to escape before their own fate is sealed …”
The series is currently in production in Manchester and the northwest of England. Netflix has not announced a release date yet.
