FLOW bet +ENCOUNT would reach its audience through an anime screen, not Spotify

FLOW has built a career on anime themes that outlast the shows they score. The Japanese rock quintet, active for more than two decades, writes opening sequences that find their audiences through repetition rather than algorithms. Their newest single arrives on the same terms.

+ENCOUNT is the opening theme for 落第賢者の学院無双~二度目の転生、Sランクチート魔術師冒険録~, a new fantasy isekai anime series. The six-track single has no Spotify listing, a choice that reflects the band’s Japan-centric distribution model — physical editions and local streaming remain the primary routes for their catalogue.

That distribution approach makes sense when set against the back catalogue. “GO!!” became the fourth Naruto opening theme and has accumulated hundreds of millions of plays across the franchise’s extended life. “Colors” and “Days” — the Code Geass and Eureka Seven opening themes — followed the same arc: slow-burn reach built through weekly anime viewership rather than playlist adds. +ENCOUNT enters the sequence the same way.

The official music video crossed 29,000 views in its opening window. MusicBrainz catalogues the release as a six-track single under FLOW’s primary artist record. Last.fm listener numbers remain early — the kind of figure that grows over an anime’s broadcast run rather than spiking on release day and flattening.

For a band whose defining songs were built through this exact mechanism, +ENCOUNT is less a new direction than a confirmation. Whether the anime’s reach is broad enough to carry the single past its franchise fanbase and into wider rotation is the variable FLOW cannot control. The method, however, has not changed.
