Netflix’s Hit New Thriller Series Breaks Streaming Record in Just 4 Days

In a streaming environment that can often feel oversaturated, Below has quickly stood out as a monstrous success. Netflix has revealed that the Josh Hartnett thriller series became a record-setting hit in only four days.

How ‘Below’ Has Already Broken a Streaming Record

On October 8, Netflix released all six episodes of its new thriller miniseries Below. Days later, <a href="https://<a href="https://comicvibe.com/scholarship-universe-extends-application-deadline/” title=”Scholarship Universe extends application deadline”>deadline.com/2026/10/below-netflix-premiere-ratings-record-canadian-1237155959/” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>Deadline reported that it topped Netflix’s global top 10 chart at No. 1. By the end of October 11, it had racked up 17 million views. While that is impressive enough, the report revealed an even more compelling fact: the series has broken a streaming record.

A report on the streaming service’s website, Tudum, has confirmed that Below has had the most-viewed debut for a Canadian title in Netflix history. Notably, the article didn’t limit the record to shows or original programming, implying that films and licensed titles are included. In addition to making Netflix history, Below also completely blew away the competition.

According to Tudum’s current global Top 10 shows list, the runner-up series, East of Eden, fell far short of Below with 12.6 million views. After that, season 1 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians came in third place with 4.1 million views. That means that Hartnett’s hit new show surpassed the No. 2 and No. 3 series combined.

Below focuses on a Canadian fisherman who is haunted by his father’s drowning decades earlier. After a giant sea creature is sighted in the waters outside his small Newfoundland community, he teams up with a marine biologist to track the massive monster. The hit series stars Hartnett, Mackenzie Davis, Charlie Heaton, Ruby Stokes, Kaleb Horn, Rohan Campbell, and Willow Kean. It has landed an 85% Rotten Tomatoes score, which is an especially impressive figure for a thriller since the genre often gets harsh reviews from professional critics.
