FALL RIVER, Mass. (WJAR) —More than 130 years after the Borden murders shocked Fall River, the new Lizzie Borden streaming series is set to premiere on Netflix this week.
It’s part of the “Monster” Netflix series, which puts a new spin on some of the country’s most infamous murder cases.
The double murder of Lizzie Borden’s parents is one of the more notorious unsolved crimes in history.

On August 4, 1892, Andrew Borden and his second wife, Abby Borden, were found hacked to death.
“His daughter Lizzie was arrested and tried for those murders,” Lizzie Borden House historian Megan Alves said.
After a high-profile trial, Lizzie Borden was acquitted.
“To this day, we do not know really what happened in this house,” Alves said.
That mystery has kept people fascinated for generations.
“They never found any hatchet that could be proven to be the murder weapon,” Alves said.
With millions of viewers tuning in for previous seasons, some of Fall River’s tourist attractions could see another wave of visitors.
“Recently the uptick in tourists has been a little bit more,” Miss Lizzie’s Coffee general manager Oli
Pereira said the show already has a connection to Miss Lizzie’s Coffee.
The costume designer visited a few months ago.
“The costume designer had actually said that she had fitted Charlie Hunnam and Ella Beatty for the costume,” Pereira said.

The Lizzie Borden House is preparing thousands of guests.
“We are already sold out for overnights for the month of October,” Alves said.
Autumn is already one of the museum’s busiest times of the year, with as many as 14 tours a day.
But the museum expects the series could bring even more people through Borden’s doors.
“I would anticipate that we’re going to be seeing full schedules of tours throughout the month of October, and probably even going into waitlists,” Alves said.
With the premiere approaching, interest in the show continues to grow.
“I’m so excited to see what they do with it and how they kind of go through the story,” Pereira said.
The new series premieres on Thursday.
