The latest evening news ratings are in, and it’s good news for NBC Nighty News with Tom Llamas, which knocked ABC World News Tonight with David Muir off the top spot in the coveted Adults 25-54 demographic.
According to AdWeek, citing national live+same-day big data plus program ratings from Nielsen, NBC Nightly News averaged 6.557 million total viewers and 1.065 million demo viewers for the week of August 3. This put it ahead of World News Tonight in the demo by 26,000 viewers.
Nightly News was also the only evening news broadcast to see week-to-week growth in both total viewers and the demo. Compared to the week before, the show was up 1 percent in total viewers and up 12 percent in the key demo. It was also up on the same period last year, with an increase of 25 percent in total viewers and 49 percent in the demo.
Despite the demo drop, World News Tonight still held the top spot in total viewers. The show averaged 8.339 million total viewers and 1.039 million demo viewers for the week of August 3. This was up 2 percent in total viewers from the prior week but down 4 percent in the demo.
Compared to the same period in 2025, World News Tonight was up 21 percent in total viewers and up 14 percent in the demo.

Elsewhere, CBS Evening News with Tony Dokoupil was once again below 4 million viewers. The show averaged 3.913 million total viewers and 514,000 demo viewers for the week of August 4. This was down 5 percent in total viewers and down 10 percent in the demo compared to the previous week.
The year-over-year numbers were better, with a 5 percent increase in total viewers while the demo remained flat.
It should be noted that Nightly News‘ average for the week of August 3 was only based on three days (Monday-Wednesday), while World News Tonight and CBS Evening News are based on four days (Monday-Thursday).
