    • Elizabeth Smart believes Nancy Guthrie could still be alive nearly six months after her abduction, emphasizing the importance of not giving up hope.
    • Smart urges the public to have compassion for the Guthrie family and to report any information, no matter how small, that could help in finding Nancy.
    • Despite extensive investigations by the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department, no suspect has been named in Nancy Guthrie’s case, with a $1 million reward offered by her daughter Savannah.

Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, could still be alive nearly six months after her abduction, Elizabeth Smart declared.

During an interview with E! News published on July 24, Smart — who was kidnapped at 14 in 2002 and held captive for nine months — issued an important reminder.

“I would remind people that we don’t know all the details,” the 38-year-old said of Nancy’s case. “I certainly hope that the investigators have more details than we do, and I certainly hope that they’re making more progress.”

Smart added, “I want to remind people that there isn’t a body. So there is still reason to have hope that she is alive and that we shouldn’t give up until we find her.” She also encouraged the public to “have all the compassion and grace for the entire Guthrie family.”

To conclude her thoughts on Nancy’s case, Smart implored the public, “If anyone knows anything or has seen anything, or the smallest detail that might seem insignificant can make all the difference, and to just report it.”

Elizabeth Smart says she thinks Nancy Guthrie could “absolutely still be alive” three months after her disappearance and urges authorities to keep searching. More tonight on OutFront at 7p ET/4p PT. pic.twitter.com/B91rJoMnYf

Smart echoed these sentiments in May. “She could absolutely still be alive,” she told CNN’s Erin Burnett of Nancy on May 5.  “There are cases that span many more years than mine does, and they came back alive. We’re talking years and years, so she could absolutely still be alive.”

Nancy, 84, was last seen at her Catalina Foothills home on the evening of January 31. Still images and clips from a doorbell camera on Nancy’s front porch showed a masked person many have dubbed “Porch Guy,” and Savannah has offered a $1 million reward. However, no suspect has been named in the case despite the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department combing through tips and evidence since February 1.
