U.S.-based media companyNakamaannounced the launch of AniBiz.com earlier this month, which has been described as a “dedicated B2B (business-to-business) marketplace” that is developed and built “specifically for the global anime industry.”
Nakama’s press release describes AniBiz as helping to streamline the licensing process through a “digital-first solution” and a “centralized, secure environment” for global buyers. The platform will provide assistance in “accessing anime intellectual properties” and connecting with anime rights holders. It will also respect “the unique structure of Japanese anime licensing, the ecosystem of rights holders, distributors, merchandisers, and retailers.”
The platform’s official website also lists three service tiers: a basic “Free” plan, a Pro plan listed at US$49.00 a month, and a “VIP” custom plan with no specific pricing.
Nakama president and co-founderKun Gao(who also co-founded Crunchyroll and served as its former CEO), explained toAnime News Networkin an interview that the basic “Free” plan would allow licensees to “create a profile that licensors can search for,” while the Pro plan will be a subscription-based option that gives them more data to titles, production committees, and “other information.”
He added that the third “VIP” plan is an option for companies with “special requests.” The website lists this plan as having a dedicated consultation on strategy, expert review of license applications, and “concierge introduction” to licensors. It also employs “success based” outcome pricing.
