Kohei Horikoshi returns to Weekly Shonen Jump with ‘Don’t Laugh, Shijima-san’ new full-colour horror one-shot

Pop Culture & ArtJuly 29, 20261 min read

Kohei Horikoshi is returning to Weekly Shonen Jump with a brand-new one-shot manga, marking his first new work in the magazine since the conclusion ofMy Hero Academiain 2024.

Shueisha announced that Horikoshi’s latest manga, titled Don’t Laugh, Shijima-san, will be published in the combined issue 37/38 of Weekly Shonen Jump, which goes on sale on August 10.

The one-shot is described as a boy-meets-girl horror story and will span 61 pages. It will also be published entirely in full colour. Alongside the announcement, an official colour illustration from the manga was released, offering fans a first look at the project.

The release marks Horikoshi’s first one-shot in Weekly Shonen Jump since My Hero Academia ended in August 2024 after a decade-long serialisation.

The superhero series became one of the magazine’s most successful modern titles, earning a global following through its manga, anime adaptation and spin-off projects.

Rather than returning with another action-focused story, Horikoshi’s latest work will explore horror, introducing readers to an original standalone tale centred on a boy and a girl.

The upcoming issue of Weekly Shonen Jump will also include a special feature celebrating the 50th anniversary of Kochikame, the long-running manga series officially titled Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen-mae Hashutsujo by Osamu Akimoto.

According to the announcement, the anniversary feature is supervised by horror novelist Seisuji, who is known for works including About a Certain Place in the Kinki Region and A Questionnaire on Mouths.

Readers purchasing the issue will also receive a bonus illustration card drawn by Akimoto.
