Netflix’s My Brilliant Career has become a global hit, and its Australian-heavy soundtrack is now enjoying a surge of its own.

Music featured in the new series has attracted tens of thousands of Shazams since its release, with tracks from Julia Jacklin, Kate Miller-Heidke and Thelma Plum among those catching viewers’ attention.

Leading the way is Jacklin’s rendition of traditional ballad “Scarborough Fair” with the My Brilliant Career cast, which has recorded more than 23,800 Shazams in the 10 days since the series premiered.

Isabella Manfredi and the cast’s rendition of Rod Stewart’s “Young Turks” has generated another 14,500 Shazams, while Miller-Heidke’s take on Daryl Braithwaite’s “The Horses” has passed 10,200. Plum’s rendition of Donna Lewis’ “I Love You Always Forever”, also performed with the cast, has been Shazamed around 8,000 times.

The interest in the soundtrack follows a strong international debut for My Brilliant Career, which is based on Miles Franklin’s classic 1901 novel.

As the series debuted at No. 4 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 English TV list, recording 3.1 million views in its first days on the platform. It also reached the Top 10 in 54 countries, including No. 3 in Australia, No. 4 in New Zealand and No. 9 in the UK

Philippa Northeast stars as Sybylla Melvyn, an aspiring writer determined to pursue a creative life despite the expectations placed on young women in 1900 Australia. Christopher Chung plays Harry Beecham, with Anna Chancellor, Genevieve O’Reilly, Kate Mulvany, Jake Dunn, Alexander England, Sherry-Lee Watson and Miah Madden rounding out the cast.

“My Brilliant Career is such an Australian classic, so it felt both a privilege and a big responsibility for Liz [Doran] and I to remake it,” executive producer Chloe Rickard said. “Australian stories deserve to be told, and in this case, told again. Audiences will be able to reconnect to this much-loved work and, excitedly for us, many will be discovering it for the first time.”

My Brilliant Career is now streaming on Netflix.

Clayface has always been a favorite of mine when it comes to the Batman’s rogues gallery. That largely comes from the stellar two parter “Feet of Clay” from Batman: The Animated Series, a series of episodes that condensed the long and convoluted story of Clayface into a singular and tragic narrative
