Netflix’s slate of Australian originals continues to heat up this year! Last featured at the Next on Netflix event at the beginning of the year, we finally have a release date for the highly anticipated period drama My Brilliant Career. Here is our full preview of everything you need to know about the upcoming series hitting Netflix in August 2026.
As we’ve previously covered when the show officially entered production last June and in our early everything we know guide, My Brilliant Career is reported to be a “fresh, vibrant reimagining” of the classic Australian coming-of-age story.
The drama series is a major cornerstone of the Netflix Australia movie and TV slate for 2026, and we can finally confirm when you’ll be able to binge it!
Here’s a complete breakdown of what to expect, who is starring, and when you can catch My Brilliant Career on Netflix.
What is the plot of My Brilliant Career?
Set against the sweeping landscapes of 1900 Australia, the series promises a witty, romantic, and slightly rebellious take on period dramas.
Here is the official logline for the upcoming series:
“Sybylla is a shockingly modern young woman with one searing ambition – to be a writer, while her family is determined to marry her off. With an irrepressible taste for fun, Sybylla breaks every convention of 1900 Australia as she searches for a story that will allow her to write her way to independence. For her, the choice between adventure or marriage seems easy, until she falls in love. Will Sybylla marry, or will she risk it all for a creative life?”
