Mortal Shell 2 is one of the very best of its genre, in my opinion as a veteran Souls player. It’s got all the grit and confidence of a true soulslike, and a haunting world that’s truly exciting to uncover – in a way that only a few open-world games can match. But as you may expect, the brutal combat, labyrinthine pathways, and obtuse moon logic questlines all combine to make this a pretty challenging game to complete – let alone 100%.

That’s where we come in. This page contains the entirety of Rock Paper Shotgun’s Mortal Shell 2 walkthrough, from start to finish. I’ll guide you step by step through every major area on the map, highlighting collectibles, weapons, bosses, questline instructions, and more along the way. My intention is for this guide to be the definitive place to go for new players (or returning Harbingers) looking to 100% Mortal Shell 2 and have the most fun possible while doing it.

Mortal Shell 2 plants you behind the eyeless mask of the Harbinger – a creature guided by the godlike UnderMether to recover her Ova. Why? To try to cleanse the world of the corruption left behind by a dark and powerful being known only as the “Passenger”, which journeyed to the world inside the UnderMether herself. The Harbinger can possess fallen mortal heroes – known as Shells – which grant the Harbinger access to various abilities, much like classes in other RPGs. But here, the Harbinger can switch between the different Shells at any point in the game.

1 Prologue In the Prologue of Mortal Shell 2, you’ll be introduced to the Harbinger and your first Shell, Harros. You’ll also need to fight your way through a number of Wretches and Brigands to reach the first major boss of the game, which stands between you and the Marrow Keep.
2 Widow’s Overlook Widow’s Overlook is your starting point within the land of Fainweald to the north of Marrow Keep. This part of the guide will give you your first map parts, a brand new Shell, a potent optional boss, and a great many hidden collectibles.
3 Mushroom Village Mushroom Village, east of Widow’s Overlook, holds many secrets. It’s also home to a couple of questlines, and more than a few new enemy types. You’ll need to battle through them all carefully to reach your first legacy dungeon.
4 Sunken Village The Sunken Village lies inside the Glutted Mire, and is the first legacy dungeon you’ll explore in Mortal Shell 2. Inside, one of the key bosses of the game awaits you from the safety of her corrupted grove…
