Monday Night Football’ booth had no idea what to do with Bears

Everything went right for the Chicago Bears in a resounding 27-7 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.

Vibes in the Windy City are incredibly high as Ben Johnson’s team had no problem solving their quarterback problem. With Caleb Williams and his backup Tyson Bagent sidelined, Chicago turned to Case Keenum under center. The veteran signal-caller had not played in an NFL game since 2023 but showed no signs of rust as he completed 24 of 34 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, the Bears’ defense made Jalen Hurts look very human and came within one tush push from keeping a clean sheet.

So perhaps it’s no surprise that a cosplaying couple got caught up in the excitement of it all and shared a smooch that was captured by the ESPN broadcast. Nothing unusual about that, right? Well, unless one party is dressed up like Ben Johnson and the other as legendary Bears coach Mike Ditka.

Here’s the iconic moment, which is clearly something neither Joe Buck or Troy Aikman had prepared for during their extensive work this week.

I’ve never used the phrase “relationship goals” unironically. That streak ends right now.

We should all be so lucky to be so on the same page as someone that there’s an effort to procure a costume and really get into character for some weeknight football. When you find someone who is into the exact same thing you’re into, that’s just the best feeling in the world.

It’ll be interesting to see if this type of behavior catches on. There are countless combinations of current and former coaches that no one ever thought about kissing before Monday night and now that’s all some people can think about. With Halloween right on the horizon it’s also a reminder that this type of thing would be a great couples’ idea.

Any reporter worth their salt needs to get Johnson’s thoughts on the unconventional moment. And soon.
