The Paramount+ crime series has been renewed for a third season ahead of the season 2 premiere on Sept. 18.
Despite some uncertainty around his role on the show earlier this year, Tom Hardy will be returning as loyal fixer Harry Da Souza for season 3. His costars Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren will also return as crime bosses Conrad and Maeve Harrigan, who employ Da Souza.
As fans prepare for season 2, they can expect more power struggles. While the Harrigans ended up behind bars in the season 1 finale, the trailer for the upcoming season shows the couple out of the slammer, guns blazing and ready to defend their criminal empire. Meanwhile, after being shown with a gun pointed at the back of his head, Da Souza quips, “I’m under a lot of pressure.”
Behind the scenes, Hardy has been under pressure himself. After season 2 wrapped in May, it was reported that he had been fired from the show. Puck alleged at the time that he was terminated over tardiness, attempts to change dialogue, and clashes with the producers, including showrunner Jez Butterworth.
Before the official news of his return for season 3, Deadline reported that Hardy, Butterworth, and executive producer David Glasser had a productive meeting to discuss the actor’s future on the show. Guy Ritchie, a producer on the show who also worked with Hardy on 2008’s RockNRolla, apparently helped mediate the discussion.
It also helps that Mirren threw her support behind Hardy amid the backlash toward his rumored firing. While some reports had said she was frustrated by his lack of punctuality, the Red actress emphasized that she would work with the Mad Max actor again “in a f‑‑‑ing heartbeat.”

“I love Tom, I think he’s the most amazing actor,” she told Varietyin June. “Different actors have different processes. I’ve learnt over the years that some people get to things faster. As long as what’s on the screen is fantastic, I’m totally chilled with however someone gets there. Tom is a very special person. I think he’s absolutely remarkable. My support of him is genuine and heartfelt.”
MobLand season 2 premieres on Sept. 18 on Paramount+. The 10-episode season will air weekly on Fridays until the finale on Nov. 20.
