Former The University of Texas at Austin basketball player and NBA player Mo Bamba is headed back to campus. The Longhorn athlete is opening up Mo Bamba Cards & Collectibles in West Campus on Sept. 11.
“Austin is where a lot of things really started for me, so we were very intentional in selecting a location that was right across from UT and accessible to the students,” Bamba said in the release.
The business will welcome veteran card collectors and newcomers, according to a news release, offering sports cards, Pokémon and more.
The store will include lounge seating, community trading tables, game play, opening boxes and a TV wall showing sports events, according to the release. The business will also host monthly trade nights and collector events.
“I wanted to create the kind of card shop I’d actually want to hang out in—a place where you can come in looking for a specific card, rip a pack, watch a game, make a trade or just talk sports with people who are into the same things you are,” Bamba said in the release.
For retail offerings, card collectors can find football, baseball, basketball, soccer and hockey trading cards, as well as Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece and Magic: The Gathering.
The new cards and collectables business will also act as a consignment hub. Staff will be available to assess card rarity, market value and determine if a card needs additional grading.
Mo Bamba Cards & Collectibles will open on Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. featuring a ribbon cutting ceremony with Mo Bamba and giveaways. The festivities will continue on Sept. 12 with special guest appearances by athletes and celebrities. The first 50 customers each day will receive a Mo Bamba autograph.
