Ala. (WTVY) -A Dothan comic book shop is working toward reopening after a fire tore through the business in 2024
The fire left the front of Missy’s Comix Shop a total loss. Some <a href="https://comicvibe.com/fall-2026-comics-graphic-novels-preview/” title=”Fall 2026 Comics & Graphic Novels Preview”>comics stored in the back of the building were protected and later sorted for salvage. In the time since, the shop has sold toys and collectibles at Sadie’s Flea Market while rebuilding.
Owner Melissa “Missy” Lewis said the store is now rebuilding its inventory and planning for a new storefront in the same building as the original location — two doors down from where the fire occurred. Lewis hopes the new store will open in August.
‘A staple in the Dothan community’
Customer John Garcia said the shop holds a place in the area beyond retail.
“Missy’s Comix Shop is a staple in the Dothan community,” Garcia said. “It’s a place where everyone can come together, enjoy comics, and share the nostalgia of the comic world.”
Lewis said the relationships built inside the store defined what made it distinct.
“The people who came in here became family,” Lewis said. “We talked about everything — and there’s no judgment. We take you as you are.”
