Like many of his contemporary peers, Mike Trout is a baseball card collector. Whenever I think about Trout and cards, two things come to mind: (1) my own inability to secure a 2011 Topps RC of his at a reasonable price (yet!), and (2) the clip where he pulls his own Bowman Chrome 1st Auto will ripping packs with his son:
Yeah, yeah, loaded box conspiracy theories and all that, but I don’t think Trout is a good enough actor to pull off that excitement unless it was authentic. I think he was just really, really surprised and stoked to pull the card with his son. Let’s just enjoy it!
Now there will be a third thing to think about when considering Mike Trout and baseball cards. His own collectibles company:
We’ll see what Generation One Collect evolves into, and to what extent Mike Trout will be personally involved. The 35-year-old outfielder is coming off his best – healthiest – season in a long time, posting 3.3 WAR over 142 games, the latter his most since 2016. His contract with the Angels runs four more seasons, and it’s possible that’ll be that for the Hall of Famer’s playing days. Perhaps he’s already thinking ahead to his post-game life and staying connected to the sport.
