Meta’s Quiet Entry Into Vibe-Coded Gaming

Meta is getting into gaming with the launch of a new app called Pocket, which allows people to generate small, interactive apps and games using AI prompts. The software describes itself as “a creative platform for making and sharing gizmos,” which is what the interactive experiences are called, and offers a scrollable feed where you can play with gizmos others have made

    Key Takeaways:

    • Pocket grew out of Meta’s acquisition of the team behind Gizmo, a vibe-coded gaming platform, earlier this year, and closely resembles the original Gizmo app, which is still listed.
    • App intelligence provider Appfigures dates Pocket’s first launch to June 29, 2026 on both the App Store and Google Play, though the firm cannot yet detect any downloads.
    • Meta has not officially announced the app, suggesting Pocket remains in an early experimentation phase.

Based on the app’s screenshots in Google Play, the similarities to Gizmo’s original app run deep. Like Pocket, Gizmo also lets users build small, interactive experiences from written AI prompts, and it includes a discovery feed. The original app drew attention as a TikTok-style feed of playable mini apps, where users poke, swipe, and remix digital toys instead of passively watching videos

Alessandro Paluzzi, a reverse engineer and regular spotter of new apps and features, first noticed the launch this morning and published a Play Store screenshot on X. Reporting on the news notes that Gizmo had generated 635,000 lifetime installs across iOS and Google Play with a 98% positive sentiment rating

Part of a Much Bigger App Blitz

Pocket extends Meta’s push to make AI creation tools mainstream. Earlier efforts included AI-generated images in the Meta AI app and AI videos created with Vibes, its feed built entirely from AI-generated video. The company has also added AI features across its social platforms and into Edits, its video-editing app for creators

The launch fits a deliberate strategy of shipping far more apps than before. Meta recently released Forum, a Reddit-style app built on Facebook Groups, weeks after Instants, its disappearing-photos app, with reporting suggesting CEO Mark Zuckerberg told staff that AI efficiencies now let the company build products much faster

The AI engine behind that acceleration keeps growing too. The Gizmo team reports into Meta Superintelligence Labs, the unit that produced Muse Spark, the first model from Meta’s $14.3 billion superintelligence bet, and Meta continues weaving generative features through its core products, most recently an AI Mode for Facebook search. Whether users want a social feed of AI-built mini games is the open question, but Gizmo’s install numbers suggest the format has an audience, and Meta clearly wants to own it before someone else does.
