Memory is still pricey, but this gaming PC is one of the best Prime Day deals I’ve found

The cost of RAM has made gaming PCs even more expensive than they already were, but luckily, there are some great deals out there for Amazon’s October Prime Day. Case in point: this MSI Katana 15 HX, a laptop we tested earlier this year and praised for its bang-for-buck and hardware-to-price ratio.

MSI is a name synonymous with gaming rigs, and this laptop comes with all the elements you’d expect to see on a much more expensive device. You’ve got an Intel Core i9-14900HX processor paired with 32GB of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card — a solid loadout to handle the latest gaming titles with no sweat.

The Katana 15 HX is almost 20% off right now, bringing the regular $2,199 down to $1,790, which is $409 off the original retail price.

MSI’s Katana lineup offers affordable gaming options with smart trade-offs to keep the price accessible, and this laptop is a good example of that. For example, we tested a lower-end model with a less expensive display, noting that it was evident in gaming playthroughs. This model that’s currently on sale features the better display: a 15.6-inch QHD+ IPS screen running at 165Hz refresh.

As far as connectivity goes, MSI didn’t skimp out on options. You’ve got a total of three USB-A ports (USB 3.2 Gen 2), an HDMI, ethernet, audio jack, and USB-C with power delivery and DisplayPort support.

Outside of gaming, the Katana 15HX is a solid laptop for creative work, as editing software in particular benefits from the hardware. For testing, we edited several high-resolution images in Photoshop, and the process went smoothly as can be with the laptop handling multiple layers, effects, filters, and file exports without any slowdown.

    When does this deal expire?

We aren’t expecting this deal to last beyond the end of Prime Day on Oct. 7.
