You don’t have to set your alarm for 5 a.m. to row with Crew Girl, but you’re going want to get onboard early with Netflix’s new YA romance series.
Even if you don’t know a sweep from a scull, there will be a love triangle to pick a side from involving Miku Martineau‘s Teagan—who’s seeking a fresh start at tony Easton Prep after a family scandal—and two members of the boys’ varsity crew team, which she joins because there isno girls’ team.
And while Teagan is charmed in dueling ways by cocky team captain Josh (Sam Braun) and quietly driven Cam (Kyle Clark), there’s going to be a lot of rowing action, which the actors<a href="https://www.eonline.com/news/1435778/netflixs-crew-girl-cast-reveals-rowing-training-for-tv-series” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>trained diligently to pull off in convincing fashion.
“Rowing is a sport that involves so much emotion and so much tension,” Martineau told E! News’ Erin Lim Rhodes ahead of Crew Girl‘s Sept. 10 premiere, “and respect and communication. All of those things are great qualities of a coming-of-age story.”
And the 21-year-old Toronto native didn’t just play the new girl in town.
“So much of the cast are based out of Vancouver,” Braun shared with E!, “so we all knew each other before starting the show. I feel like that’s a really special chemistry.”
Martineau quickly interjected, “I didn’t know any of them.”

That being said, she added, “everybody showed up with a great attitude and down to be friends.”
And whether or not the whole cast ends up joining Braun on an ultramarathon one day—”I think this guy might have carried over the athletic lifestyle most,” Clark quipped of his co-star’s new hobby—they’ve had a blast getting to know each other.

Speaking of which, the cast of Crew Girl may also be new to you, so here’s everything you need to know about the show’s stars before a heated rivalry erupts for their attention:
Miku Martineau is poised to make major waves as Teagan Tao, a single sculls specialist who has her work cut out for her—both as the new girl in town after a family scandal forced her relocation to the East Coast, and as coxswain of the culture-challenged boys’ crew team at prestigious Easton Prep.Since her on-camera acting debut in the 2021 action thriller Kate, the Toronto native—who’s also a singer and voice actress—has appeared in Honor Society, the Paramount+ film Star Trek: Section 31, the Netflix series Bet and Peacock’s The Miniature Wife.New to rowing, Martineau told E! News she balanced early morning training sessions with night shoots on an upcoming sci-fi film.
You may have spied Kyle Clark as “Young Forsythe Jones” on Riverdale or on a couple of episodes of The Baby-Sitters Club. But you won’t be able to miss the Canadian actor playing Cam Dillinger, “the scholarship kid with a heart of gold” who gets an A+ in chemistry with Teagan.Advertisement
Sam Braun will be flexing his newfound rowing prowess as crew captain Josh Regis, who may end up on the other end of a heated rivalry for Teagan’s affections. The Canadian made his acting debut when he was about 10 in 2013’s Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters and has racked up credits including Superman & Lois, Firefly Lane, Fire Country and the viral Netflix tearjerker Voicemails for Isabelle. And, because inquiring minds will want to know, he appears to be attached IRL, sharing photos with girlfriend Shanti Harris on Instagram.
Perhaps the most familiar member of the Crew Girl cast for U.S. audiences, Québécois actress Jessica Paré plays Teagan’s mom Ella Tao.Paré’s breakout splash came in 2010 “Zou Bisou Bisou”-ing as Don Draper’s second wife Megan on Mad Men, but before that she’d been a star of the short-lived WB series Jack & Bobby, as well as appeared in Wicker Park and Hot Tub Time Machine.More recently, she was on CBS’ SEAL Team throughout its seven-season run.
Thomas Cadrot plays one of the few other adults in the room, Easton crew coach Matt Hayden.Born in Paris, the multilingual actor is based in Vancouver and you’ve seen his face on screens small (Supernatural, Fringe, Arrow, The Flash, Nancy Drew, Family Law) and big (Star Trek Beyond, Scream VI).
Connor Paton is part of the Easton crew as Josh’s brother and teammate Ryder Regis. His credits to date include iZombie, Girlsfriends’ Guide to Divorce and Riverdale—and he played Lance Bass in the 2017 Lifetime movie Britney Ever After.Advertisement
Jude Wilson, who plays crew member Bronson “Baloo” Garner, is another Riverdale alum (in case you’re sensing a trend, the CW series was filmed in his native Vancouver), plus he’s appeared in shows such as A Million Little Things, Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent and the Showtime limited series Fellow Travelers.
Sage Linder, Alaska Leigh, Olga Petsa
Teagan’s Easton Prep classmates Britney, Amber and Juliet are there to show her the school’s highbrow ropes.Sage Linder was most prominently on the long-running Canadian series The Next Step and Harlan Coben’s Shelter on Prime Video.Alaska Leigh was previously on stage in national tours of Chicago and Rock of Ages, as well as onscreen in the likes of Stick, Fire Country and the Lifetime movie Dying for a Family.Cyprus-born Olga Petsa’s pre-Crew Girl credits include Black Mirror and I Used to Be Funny.
