After many years, the DC Comics action-figure license is shifting gears, moving from McFarlane Toys to Mattel. McFarlane is finishing off its DC Multiverse collection, which has given collectors some pretty incredible figures over the past few years. However, Mattel has already begun debuting some of its first DC collectibles, starting with a more kid-friendly line: the DC Comics Core Collection. This line of action figures stands 6.5 inches tall, features roughly 22 points of articulation, and is nicely detailed. These figures aren’t as highly articulated or as intricately sculpted as the DC Multiverse line, but they pack a punch at an incredible price point.

That being said, the DC Comics Core Collection from Mattel comes in at only $12.99 per figure, with four characters releasing in Wave One. Batman was part of that first drop, along with The Flash, Robin, and The Joker. These figures have been quite hard to get our hands on, but they are starting to show up online more often, and we just had to get one. The detail, sculpt, and articulation are quite nice for such an inexpensive price point. Batman features a fabric cape, which is always a plus, and comes with a nice variety of accessories and his own weapons display case. Accessories consist of Batarangs, grappling hooks, and smoke bombs, and the figure features a Bat-Link system that will allow most of Mattel’s new DC Comics figures to work with it.

As a massive DC Multiverse collector, nothing will be able to replace those highly articulated, nicely detailed, excellent high-end collectibles. However, Mattel is bringing something truly incredible to the collectible market with inexpensive figures that finally scale with other 6-inch action figure lines, like Marvel Legends. This will truly allow you to bring some iconic crossovers to life. Mattel is expected to drop a new collector-focused line in 2027, but at this price point, this might be the next series that will be collected by kids and adults alike.
