Insomniac has reduced the opacity of Marvel’s Wolverine’s Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators in update 1.001.005, with a full toggle still under consideration.
Insomniac Games has rolled out the first fix for the most mocked part of Marvel’s Wolverine. Update 1.001.005, released on 18 September, reduces the opacity of the game’s Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators so the glowing paths that steer Logan toward his next objective sit lighter on screen. The studio describes the change as making the visuals “less intense”. The same download also clears a set of crashes that a small share of players had been running into since launch. The trails, nicknamed fart trails by players, became the lightning rod for a broader complaint. Critics argued that a linear action game does not need constant signposting, and that the combination of trails, on-screen markers and prompting voice lines left almost nothing in the level for the player to work out.

A full off switch is on the table, but Insomniac
    has not committed to one

The patch notes say the team is still evaluating ways to improve the Senses systems, including toggleable options in a future update. No date is attached, and no promise has been made that the trails can be turned off completely. A separate UV bug is also queued for a fix, according to community and marketing director James Stevenson, who said ahead of release that the team had been “cooking hard” on feedback.Marvel’s Wolverine is a PS5 exclusive and currently sits as the lowest-rated single-player AAA release from a PlayStation first-party studio since Days Gone in 2019. Player scores on PSN and aggregator sites have landed noticeably higher than review scores. For now, the guidance is quieter rather than gone. Whether it disappears entirely is a decision Insomniac has pushed to a later patch.
