The full file size for Marvel’s Wolverine has now been revealed, as pre-loads for the game go live ahead of the launch next week.
Pre-loads for Marvel’s Wolverine went live earlier this week, starting at midnight local time on Tuesday to prepare players so they can play on September 15.
With one week to go until the game releases, the pre-load has revealed how much storage space you’ll need to have spare to be able to get it installed on your PlayStation 5 console.
What’s more, comparing this to Insomniac Games’ previous games does seem to tell us it has gone all-out in optimising the game to save as much space as possible.
Marvel’s Wolverine file size on PlayStation 5
As revealed by a Reddit user who pre-installed the game on their PlayStation 5, Marvel’s Wolverine is 79.6 GB when fully downloaded.
For users on slower connections in poor network areas, this could mean taking up to several days to download the game, hence why Sony has given you a week to be able to download it.
Users in higher network speed areas should be able to comfortably download the game within a few hours, though.
Comparing this to Insomniac’s last few games, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was 98 GB at launch, while Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was 42.1 GB. A varied mix, but it does seem like Insomniac has gone to great lengths to ensure the game is optimised to not take up too much storage space.
The release of Marvel’s Wolverine comes during a very busy calendar for game launches, with September seemingly being one of the busiest months in recent years for new games coming out.
In terms of major releases, we’ve already had The Blood of Dawnwalker and Onimusha: Way of the Sword last week. This week, we’ve got Halloween: The Game and the 1.0 release of Valheim.
Next week, gamers will be able to tuck into Marvel’s Wolverine and RuneScape: Dragonwilds, while the rest of the month will also see the arrival of Silent Hill: Townfall, Control Resonant, Graveyard Keeper 2, EA Sports FC 27, Minecraft Dungeons 2, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered.
The reason why this month is so busy is down to the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, which is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19.
With GTA VI as one of the most hyped releases of all time, many publishers are avoiding the window by bringing their games forward by a couple of months, or delaying them until February.
