Marvel Studios made a triumphant return to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, unveiling a packed slate of announcements that offered fans their clearest look yet at the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From surprise casting reveals to exclusive footage and returning fan favourites, there was plenty to get excited about.

Ryan Gosling Cast as Ghost Rider

One of the biggest surprises of the presentation came when Marvel Studios confirmed that Ryan Gosling will star as Ghost Rider in a brand-new feature film.

The project will be directed by Shawn Levy, with a planned release in 2028. While Marvel stopped short of revealing which incarnation of Ghost Rider Gosling will portray, the announcement finally brings one of Marvel’s most requested characters into the MCU.

Black Panther III Introduces a New T’Challa

Director Ryan Coogler officially announced Black Panther III, confirming that David Jonsson has been cast as the new T’Challa, playing the son of the original Black Panther.

Returning stars Letitia Wright and Winston Duke will reprise their roles as Shuri and M’Baku, with the story continuing the legacy of Wakanda while introducing its next generation of heroes. The film is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 15 December 2028.

    First Look at Avengers: Doomsday

Hall H attendees were treated to exclusive footage from Avengers: Doomsday, offering fans their first glimpse of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in action.

The footage reportedly featured Doom commanding an army of Sentinels as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes struggled to stop him. Marvel also reunited directors Joe and Anthony Russo with an all-star cast on stage, while Downey Jr. delighted fans by appearing in character as the iconic villain.

    Original X-Men Reunite

Marvel also welcomed back several stars from the original X-Men film series ahead of their appearances in Avengers: Doomsday.

Among those appearing on stage were James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn and Kelsey Grammer, confirming that Marvel is fully embracing the Fox-era X-Men as the Multiverse Saga heads towards its conclusion.

    Deadpool Crashes Hall H

It wouldn’t be Comic-Con without a surprise appearance from the Merc with a Mouth.

Ryan Reynolds arrived in full Deadpool costume to the delight of fans, teasing that Wade Wilson still has an important future in the MCU. While Marvel stopped short of announcing a new standalone Deadpool film, Reynolds’ appearance strongly suggested the character’s story is far from over.

    Avengers: Endgame Returns to Cinemas

Marvel also revealed that Avengers: Endgame will return to cinemas on 25 September with additional footage designed to help bridge the story into Avengers: Doomsday.

The re-release gives fans another opportunity to experience one of the MCU’s biggest films on the big screen while offering new material that connects directly to the next Avengers event.

    Looking Ahead

Marvel’s Hall H presentation delivered exactly the sort of spectacle fans have come to expect from San Diego Comic-Con. Between the arrival of Ghost Rider, the future of Wakanda, the return of the X-Men and an epic preview of Avengers: Doomsday, the studio has laid down an ambitious roadmap for the years ahead.

With Disney’s D23 Expo just around the corner, there’s every chance even more Marvel announcements are waiting in the wings.
