If there’s one thing the success of Avengers: Endgame and the excitement for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday shows, it’s that fans still love a good old Marvel team-up. This lesson is not lost on Marvel Comics or writer Chip Zdarsky. Chip Zdarsky promises that this summer’s Avengers: Armageddon storyline will feature the comic book Marvel Universe coming together for the first time in a while.
“There’s an isolation between the X-Men and the Avengers and, for example, Spider-Man. We want to avoid that a little bit, and we want these characters to interact more,” Zdarsky revealed in an interview on the Owen Reichs Comics podcast. “That’s part of why I’m writing so far ahead. If I write far enough ahead, I can get these things approved before other agencies say, ‘Oh, no, this is what’s happening in the meantime.'”
Zdarsky is Armageddon’s primary architect and has already begun building its framework with the ongoing Captain America comic book series.
Fans have already seen the cover of the Armageddon/X-Men Comics Giveaway Day special issue, which features Wolverine, Iron Man, and Spider-Man battling Red Hulk, hinting at the scope of future storylines, and Marvel has already announced a prologue to a story that includes both Captain America and Wolverine, with the latter appearing in the Weapons of Armageddon miniseries. Director Zdarsky was open to expanding the storyline roster a bit, admitting, “Spidey also has a role in Armageddon. We’ve got all the toys, so we’ll have to play with them.”
Avengers: Armageddon begins in June 2026.
